ACA Affect on HIRSP Insurance Participants

Post 50 of 67

The Health Insurance Risk-Sharing Plan (HIRSP) is being terminated on December 31, 2013.  Individuals on that plan will need to enroll in the new Wisconsin Individual Health Insurance Marketplace by December 15, 2013 to insure continuous health insurance coverage.

Here are some important dates for healthcare reform implementation that all HIRSP members should know:

  • October 1:  The Health Insurance Marketplace begins accepting applications.
  • December 15:  You must be enrolled in a new health plan, with your first month’s premium paid, in order for coverage to take effect on January 1, 2014.
  • December 31: HIRSP coverage ends at midnight.
  • January 1: New coverage should take effect, so you experience no gaps in coverage or care.
  • March 31:  The first open enrollment period at the Health Insurance Marketplace ends.  The second wave of open enrollment is not until October 15, 2014.

The new healthcare reform page on the HIRSP website will  be updated frequently with new information that is pertinent to HIRSP members.

More detail on how the Marketplace will function, available plan designs and pricing information should be available as we get closer to the October 1, 2013 Marketplace introduction date.
