Most people rely on their income to pay for their day-to-day expenses. Short term disability insurance helps prepare for the unexpected by providing a monthly monetary benefit intended to help replace up to 60%* of a person’s income during their benefit period if total disability due to illness or injury prevents them from working.

Eligibility and Coverage

  • Employees age 17 to 64
  • Spouses and children not eligible
  • Employer may offer 24-hour or off-the-job only coverage

Individual short term disability insurance provides employees with:

  • Easy enrollment
  • Simplified underwriting
  • Affordable coverage
  • Convenient Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
  • Immediate coverage when EFT begins
  • Coverage for maternity after 12 months
  • Portable coverage, the policyowner owns, and can continue even if they leave their job
  • Beneï¬ts are paid directly to the policyowner and are not reduced regardless of Social Security, workers’ compensation or employer paid time off**

Coverage is guaranteed renewable until age 72, regardless of illness/injury, as long as premium payments are made when due.
